Learning Objectives
After completion of this course, the student will earn One (1) PE/PDH Credit on their way to becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
When the student completes Module One, Pipe Wall Thickness, the student will be able to:
- Calculate the pipe wall thickness correctly for 8 out of 10 given process conditions.
- State the purpose, history and usage of the Y-factor and its impact on pipe wall thickness.
- Determine the maximum Weld Joint Strength Reduction Factor allowed by ASME B31.3
applying both Table 302.3.5 and Section III, NH for five process conditions. - Demonstrate the accurate and actual mill tolerance for a single given piping standard or
manufacturing methodology. - Relate calc. wall vs pipe schedule to the pipe procurement process by drawing an accurate
process diagram depicting the relationship. - Be able to calculate the required pipe wall thickness per FK300 for a given pressure and
temperature and, from this calculation, determine the most value-added wall thickness per
process condition.
